Minutes of Previous Meeting

With 2 corrections, the minutes of the previous meeting of 21 April having been circulated were passed as a true record of events.

Matters Arising from Actions 21 April 2015

Trysting tree

Cllr Hall reported that tree surgeon was advising on removal of the tree guard.

Defibrillators

Cllr Bell had no response from the business organisation owning the Border Hotel, Yetholm re. the defibrillator on their building. Would speak to Gibson’s Insurance.

Cllr Pedersen reported that the unit at Cessford was being installed on the end of a building near the telephone box and that Cllr Aitchison had made progress finding a suitable site in Linton.

Treasurer reported that the Jinty Scott Trust fund had made a valuable contribution to the costs.

Scottish Borders Health and Social Care Integration consultation Cllr Halliday had a response from SBC re. a publicity event in Morebattle – due to the high number of requests it might not be possible but it was not a definite ‘no’.

Morebattle Development Site

Three community councillors had visited the site and noted that the hedge and the standard trees next to the kirkyard needed attention. SBC Parks section had trimmed the inside of the hedge after SBC Cllr Mountford contacted them. To progress.

SBC Cllr Mountford reported that SBC Cllr Nicol was arranging for a replacement plaque to be made.

Signage issues

Cllr Bell tabled responses from a poll of local residents in Morebattle. There was general agreement in the ‘Chairlie’s Vennel’, ‘Main Street’ and ‘Well Brae’. SBC Access section to be contacted for a map showing paths in and around the village.

Investigate origins of naming the Square after St Andrew.

Agreed that private land was outside the scope of the current activity.

SBC Cllr Mountford suggested a walk around the village with SBC Officer Ronnie Pattenden.

Morebattle Rideout 21 June 2-3.30pm

Chair noted that the community council’s role was to provide food and refreshments and find a speaker. SBC Cllr Mountford agreed to be master of ceremonies and Cllr Bell agreed to contact a potential speaker.

Cllr Mabon listed the various tasks that need to be undertaken.

Festival Invitations

Cllr Mabon and her husband would represent the community council at the Jethart Callant’s investiture on 10 June.

No takers for the Kelso Laddie’s events on 15 and 16 July.

SBC Capital and Revenue Works 2015/16

Concerns raised about proposed dates for bridge works at Caverton Mill during harvest - SBC Cllr Mountford to contact SBC Asset Manager.

Morebattle PS school roll 2015/16

Cllr Thomson concerned that potential fall in school intake could see teachers reduced from 3 to 2. SBC Cllr Mountford to request roll numbers from SBC.
