Minutes of Previous Meeting

The minutes of the previous meeting of 15 August having been circulated were then passed as a true record of events.

Treasurer noted that an application to the SBC Community Grant Scheme for the defibrillator fund had been submitted. Query why the community council was being asked to provide proof of an equality policy by SBC. SBC Cllr Mountford to contact SBC officer Linda Cornwall.

Items for Circulation Folder

The Secretary summarised some of the items going into the new circulation folder as listed on the agenda.

It was noted that community council constitutions would need to be amended to take account of changes in the SBC Community Council Scheme. Areas covered include equal opportunities, voting for 16 year-olds and over.

Cllr Halliday asked if the Trysting tree could be pruned. It was noted that the tree was on the Institute’s ground and pre-dated the community council. Cllrs Hall and Halliday to obtain quotes from tree surgeons.

A 50:50 split of costs could be discussed with the institute.

Cllr Mabon passed on concerns of local members of the community re. potholes at the top end of Morebattle and a blocked drain by the butchers. SBC Cllr Mountford suggested a meeting with SBC officer Ronnie Pattenden and Chair.

SBC Cllr Nicol gave an update on the Morebattle development site. Chair noted that the site had deteriorated over the summer.

Agreed to write to owner to request that pernicious weeds are controlled and trees maintained on a monthly basis.

SBC Cllr Nicol noted that a potential traffic order for Mainsfield Avenue could go ahead when enough other TOs are gathered.

Chair noted that the Village Hall had been completed and that new sound and lighting systems had been installed.

The Chair thanked Hownam residents for their warm welcome and delicious cakes and refreshments. Meeting concluded at 7.50pm.
